FUTURE AFRICA FRIDAYS
IF THE ROOM OPENED TODAY, WOULD YOU BE READY?
IF THE ROOM OPENED TODAY, WOULD YOU BE READY?
A few weeks ago, I attended a business forum where one of the speakers asked a question that has stayed with me:
If you were given an opportunity to address world leaders, the world’s top CEOs or leading billionaires, what would you tell them?
Imagine being invited to speak before presidents, kings, global investors, industry leaders and the people shaping the future of the world.
You are given the microphone.
The room becomes silent.
Everyone is listening.
What would you say?
Would you have an original idea worth hearing?
Would you understand the problems affecting your country, industry or continent?
Could you articulate a solution clearly?
Would your knowledge, experience and conviction command their attention?
Would you be able to speak beyond your personal needs and present a vision capable of transforming communities, industries or nations?
Or would you spend your few minutes taking photographs, praising everyone in the room and asking for opportunities?
Many people want access to powerful rooms, but very few are preparing something valuable to contribute when the door finally opens.
Access without preparation can become a wasted opportunity.
If you want to sit before kings, begin preparing before the invitation arrives.
Read widely.
Study your industry.
Understand the world.
Know Africa’s challenges.
Develop solutions.
Build evidence.
Master your subject.
Strengthen your communication.
Learn to express complex ideas simply.
Know what you believe and why it matters.
Think bigger than your current position.
Prepare as though one day you may be asked to advise a president, present to the world’s top CEOs, address a global forum or pitch before investors capable of financing your vision.
Even if God placed you before kings tomorrow, what would you do with the opportunity
What would you tell them?
What would you ask them to build, change, fund or support?
What problem would your knowledge help solve?
And what would make them remember your name after you left the room?
The question is not only whether you will ever receive such an opportunity.
The real question is:
IF THE ROOM OPENED TODAY, WOULD YOU BE READY?
The future belongs to builders who prepare before opportunity knocks.
