FOLLOW-THROUGH

MASTERY AFRICA TUESDAY SKILLS FOR BUILDERS IN AFRICA THE SKILL OF FOLLOW-THROUGH Ideas are common. Execution is a skill. THE CELLULANT STORY Africa does not have an ideas shortage. Every day, someone has an idea for a business. An app. A product. A solution. A platform. A new way of doing something. We talk about what we *could* build. We write business plans. We attend conferences. We create presentations. We tell our friends about the big idea. But somewhere between IDEA and EXECUTION, many dreams die. Because having an idea and building an idea are two completely different skills. And perhaps one of the most underrated skills every African builder needs to master is: FOLLOW-THROUGH. The ability to take something from: IDEA → DECISION → ACTION → CONSISTENCY → COMPLETION → SCALE. That is where builders separate themselves from dreamers. FROM AN IDEA ON A SERVIETTE TO AN AFRICAN BUSINESS There is a powerful lesson in the story of Cellulant. Kenyan entrepreneur Ken Njoroge, together wit...

Your ability to finish is a competitive advantage.

THE ART OF FOLLOW-THROUGH Theme: Ideas are common. Execution is a skill. MASTERY AFRICA TUESDAY | Skills for Builders Focus: Teaching builders how to become people who finish what they start. Follow-through is the discipline of finishing what you start and staying committed to the process long after the excitement of beginning has faded. For builders, follow-through is essential because ideas, vision, passion and even talent mean very little without execution to completion. Many people are excellent starters they announce the business, begin the project, create the strategy, make the promise or pursue the opportunity but builders must learn to stay when things become difficult, repetitive, slow or uncertain. Follow-through means doing what you said you would do, meeting the deadline, making the call, completing the project, fixing what is not working, learning from setbacks and continuing until the intended outcome is achieved or there is a deliberate reason to change direction. It bui...

Delusional

BELIEVE AFRICA MONDAYS THE BUILDER’S MINDSET BE RELENTLESS. BE A LITTLE DELUSIONAL. Most people see chaos and see disorder. Builders see chaos and ask: What can I build from this? They see possibilities where others see problems. They see opportunities where others see uncertainty. They see something in their minds before it exists in reality. And perhaps that is one of the most important characteristics of a builder: YOU HAVE TO BE A LITTLE DELUSIONAL. Not disconnected from reality. But courageous enough to believe in a reality that doesn't exist yet. Every great builder has had to believe in something before there was evidence that it would work. Before the customers. Before the money. Before the recognition. Before the team. Before the breakthrough. Before anybody else could see it. They saw it. They believed it. And then they became relentless about building it. BUILDERS SEE POSSIBILITIES IN CHAOS. Many builders have experienced uncertainty at some point in their lives. Sometim...

THE NEHEMIAH BUILDERS GENERATION

THE NEHEMIAH GENERATION REBUILDERS. BUILDERS. REFORMERS. AFRICA, IT IS TIME TO BUILD. One of the greatest biblical lessons on building, rebuilding and national transformation is the story of Nehemiah. Nehemiah was not originally a builder. He was a cupbearer to the king. But when he heard that Jerusalem was in ruins, its walls broken down and its gates burned, something happened inside him. He cared. Nehemiah 1:3–4 tells us that when he heard about the condition of Jerusalem, he sat down, wept, mourned, fasted and prayed before God. Before Nehemiah rebuilt the walls, the burden was built inside the man. And perhaps this is where rebuilding begins. Someone must care enough about what is broken to accept responsibility for helping rebuild it. Nehemiah prayed. He sought God. He developed a plan. He approached the king. He mobilised resources. He travelled to Jerusalem. He inspected the walls. He organised the people. He allocated responsibility. He dealt with opposition. And then they bui...

SEVARIA Brand Positioning and Reputation

BRAND AFRICA WEDNESDAY POSITIONING & REPUTATION YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE FOR EVERYONE. YOU HAVE TO BE REMEMBERED BY SOMEONE. FOCUS: SEVARIA 🇰🇪 | MADE IN KENYA MN COLLECTIVE | INSIGHTS UNFILTERED BELIEVE. BRAND. BUILD AFRICA. I came across Sevaria because of the clothes. But I stayed because of the brand. There was something about the pieces that made me stop. The textures. The silhouettes. The handwoven cotton. The sisal. The fringing. The earthy photography. The African faces. The restraint in the styling. Nothing seemed to be fighting desperately for attention. And yet, somehow, it got my attention. That is when I stopped looking at Sevaria merely as a fashion brand and started looking at it through a different lens: POSITIONING. Because there are thousands of people making clothes. Thousands of fashion businesses. Thousands of designers. Thousands of Instagram pages selling fashion. Many of them are talented. Many make beautiful products. So why do some brands make us stop? Wh...

BRAND MARKETING AND DIRECT MARKETING ARE NOT THE SAME THING. STOP MEASURING THEM AS IF THEY ARE.

BRAND AFRICA WEDNESDAYS POSITIONING & REPUTATION BRAND MARKETING AND DIRECT MARKETING ARE NOT THE SAME THING. STOP MEASURING THEM AS IF THEY ARE. A C-SUITE CONVERSATION ABOUT BRAND, DEMAND, ROI AND LONG-TERM ENTERPRISE VALUE MN COLLECTIVE | INSIGHTS UNFILTERED** BELIEVE. BRAND. BUILD AFRICA. There is a conversation I believe more African boardrooms need to have. What exactly are we asking marketing to do? Generate leads this month? Increase bookings? Drive traffic to the website? Sell inventory? Build awareness? Strengthen reputation? Create preference? Command a premium? Enter a new market? Make the company famous? These are not the same objectives. And therefore, they should not necessarily be funded, executed or measured in the same way. One of the most useful distinctions Seth Godin makes in This Is Marketing is between direct marketing and brand marketing. It is a distinction CEOs, CFOs, CMOs and boards should understand. Because when we confuse the two, we can end up killing ...

What are you doing with what is already in your hands?

What are you doing with what is already in your hands? WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH WHAT YOU HAVE? SEPTEMBER 2026: STOP WAITING. START BUILDING. MASTERY AFRICA TUESDAY | SKILLS FOR BUILDERS. LESSONS FROM PROF. BITANGE NDEMO MN COLLECTIVE | BUILDERS AFRICA BELIEVE. BRAND. BUILD AFRICA. As we begin a new month, I listened to an interview with Prof. Bitange Ndemo and one thought stayed with me: DO SOMETHING. Don't sit waiting for an opportunity. Don't wait for the perfect job. Don't wait for someone to discover you. Don't wait until somebody gives you permission. Don't wait until everything makes sense. START WITH WHAT YOU HAVE. It reminded me of the biblical question God asked Moses: What is that in thine hand? — Exodus 4:2 Moses had a rod. It looked ordinary. But in God's hands and with Moses willing to use it it became an instrument through which extraordinary things happened. And perhaps that is a question every African builder should ask as we enter September: WHAT...
