The future belongs to builders who prepare before opportunity knocks.
FUTURE AFRICA TUESDAY
IF THE ROOM OPENED TODAY, WOULD YOU BE READY?
A few weeks ago, I attended a business forum where one of the speakers asked a question that has stayed with me:
“If you were given an opportunity to address world leaders, the world’s top CEOs or leading billionaires, what would you tell them?”
Many of us regularly make presentations to board members, management teams, clients and investors. Yet, most of the time, we present the same strategies repeatedly.
The font changes.
The logo changes when it is a different company.
The numbers are updated.
One or two recommendations are adjusted.
But there is often nothing original, disruptive or extraordinary about what we are presenting.
We recycle familiar ideas, rearrange the slides and call it a new strategy.
But what would it take for you to become extraordinary?
Imagine receiving a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to address presidents, kings, global investors, industry leaders and the people shaping the future of the world.
You walk onto a global stage.
You are given the microphone.
The room becomes silent.
Everyone is listening.
What would you say?
What original idea would you present?
What problem would you help them understand differently?
What solution would you propose?
What would be your unique value proposition?
Why should kings, world leaders or the world’s most influential CEOs listen to you?
Would your knowledge, preparation, experience and conviction command their attention?
Would you be able to speak beyond your personal ambitions and present a vision capable of transforming an organisation, industry, community, continent or generation?
Or would you spend those precious minutes taking photographs, praising everyone in the room and asking them for opportunities?
Many people want access to powerful rooms, but very few are preparing something valuable to contribute when the door finally opens.
Access without preparation can become a wasted opportunity.
If you want to sit before kings, begin preparing before the invitation arrives.
Read widely.
Study your industry.
Understand the world.
Know Africa’s challenges.
Question familiar strategies.
Develop original solutions.
Build evidence.
Master your subject.
Strengthen your communication.
Learn to express complex ideas simply.
Know what you believe—and why it matters.
Do not wait for the global stage to start thinking globally.
Prepare as though one day you may be asked to advise a president, address world leaders, present to the world’s top CEOs or pitch before investors capable of financing your vision.
Even if God placed you before kings tomorrow, what would you do with the opportunity?
What would you tell them?
What would you ask them to build, change, fund or support?
What problem would your knowledge help solve?
What perspective would you bring that they had not heard before?
What is your value proposition?
And what would make them remember your name after you left the room?
The question is not only whether you will ever receive such an opportunity.
The real question is:
IF THE ROOM OPENED TODAY, WOULD YOU BE READY?
Prepare your mind. Develop your voice. Master your subject. Build something worth presenting.
The future belongs to builders who prepare before opportunity knocks.
