TRY

Builders Africa Monday theme: purpose, long-term thinking, action, consistency and building a life with fewer regrets.

1% better compounded daily for 365 days is about 37.8×, not merely 365% better.

WHAT COULD YOUR LIFE BECOME?

Build a Life You Will Be Proud to Look Back On at 90

BUILDERS AFRICA MONDAYS | THE BUILDER’S MINDSET

MN COLLECTIVE | INSIGHTS UNFILTERED

BELIEVE. BRAND. BUILD AFRICA.

Have you ever wondered:

What kind of life has God prepared for me?

Why am I here?

Why was I born in this generation, in this part of the world, with these particular gifts, experiences, ideas, opportunities and burdens?

What am I supposed to build with the life I have been given?

And perhaps an even more uncomfortable question:

What if I reach the end of my life having never attempted what I knew, deep inside, I was supposed to do?

I was listening to Jeff Bezos this morning discussing his famous Regret Minimization Framework

When Bezos was considering leaving a successful career to start an internet business, he projected himself forward to age 80 and asked what he would regret.

His conclusion was powerful:

He believed he would not regret trying and failing.

He would regret never trying at all.

That distinction matters.

Because some of life's greatest regrets may not come from the things we did.

They may come from the things we never attempted.

The businesses we never started.

The books we never wrote.

The applications we never submitted.

The conversations we never had.

The countries we never explored.

The skills we never developed.

The ideas we kept postponing.

The people we never helped.

The ministries we never started.

The companies we never built.

The dreams we buried because we were afraid of looking foolish.

The opportunities we watched pass because we kept waiting to feel ready.

WHAT IF FAILURE ISN'T THE GREATEST RISK?

Builders must learn to redefine risk.

We usually ask:

What if I try and fail?

But perhaps we should also ask:

What if I never try?

Failure can teach you.

Failure can redirect you.

Failure can humble you.

Failure can expose weaknesses in your strategy.

Failure can become data.

Failure can prepare you for your next attempt.

But you cannot learn much from an idea that permanently remains inside your head.

Sometimes the greater risk is omission.

The thing you knew you should attempt but never did.

THE PERSON YOU BECAME VS. THE PERSON YOU COULD HAVE BECOME

Imagine reaching the end of your life and the person you became meeting the person you could have become.

Think about that.

Two versions of you standing face-to-face.

One represents the life you actually lived.

The other represents the potential you carried.

The courage you could have exercised.

The discipline you could have developed.

The people you could have impacted.

The businesses you could have built.

The gifts you could have sharpened.

The opportunities you could have pursued.

The purpose you could have fulfilled.

How wide would the gap be?

Perhaps one definition of regret is discovering that the greatest distance in your life was the distance between your potential and your execution.

Builders work to close that gap.

PURPOSE IS NOT ONLY SOMETHING YOU DISCOVER.

PURPOSE IS SOMETHING YOU WALK OUT.

Many of us are waiting for a dramatic revelation.

God, show me my purpose.

And sometimes God gives extraordinary clarity.

But often, purpose unfolds while we are moving.

You notice something.

You feel a burden.

An idea refuses to leave you.

You recognize a problem nobody seems willing to solve.

You discover something you are unusually good at.

You repeatedly feel drawn toward a particular assignment.

Then comes responsibility.

DO SOMETHING.

Scripture says:

For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. James 2:26, KJV

Believing matters.

But belief should eventually produce movement.

Pray.

Discern.

Seek counsel.

Learn.

Prepare.

And then:

TRY.

BUILDERS DON'T JUST BELIEVE.

BUILDERS MOVE.

There comes a point when another podcast will not help you.

Another motivational speech will not help you.

Another notebook will not help you.

Another strategy session will not help you.

Another year of saying one day will not help you.

You have to move.

Send the proposal.

Register the company.

Write page one.

Make the call.

Apply for the position.

Build the prototype.

Learn the skill.

Launch imperfectly.

Ask for the meeting.

Start saving.

Start investing.

Start exercising.

Start creating.

Start building.

You don't need to see the entire staircase.

Sometimes you simply need enough courage for the next step.

THINK LONG TERM. ACT TODAY.

One of the most powerful disciplines of builders is the ability to hold two time horizons simultaneously:

LONG-TERM VISION.

And:

TODAY'S ACTION.

Think in decades.

Execute in days.

Where do you want to be at 90?

Then work backwards.

What kind of person must you become?

What relationships matter?

What must you build?

What must you stop?

What skills must you master?

What values must remain non-negotiable?

What contribution do you want to have made?

What do you want your children, colleagues, employees, community and continent to say your life stood for?

Then ask:

What can I do TODAY that moves me one step closer?

That is how significant lives are built.

Not necessarily through one spectacular leap.

Through thousands of ordinary decisions moving consistently in the same direction.

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE 1% EVERYDAY

People underestimate small beginnings because they cannot immediately see the destination.

But consistency compounds.

If something genuinely improves by 1% every day and that improvement compounds for 365 days, mathematically:

1.01³⁶⁵ ≈ 37.8 times

That does not mean you literally become 37 times better at life. Human growth isn't that mathematically tidy.

But the principle is important:

SMALL IMPROVEMENTS, REPEATED CONSISTENTLY, CAN PRODUCE EXTRAORDINARY DIFFERENCES OVER TIME.

One page.

One workout.

One customer.

One call.

One lesson.

One proposal.

One hour of focused work.

One improved process.

One uncomfortable conversation.

One disciplined decision.

One percent.

Again tomorrow.

And again.

And again.

People may eventually call your results extraordinary.

But you will know the truth:

You built them one ordinary day at a time.

LIVE BY DESIGN, NOT BY DEFAULT.

Default is dangerous because default feels comfortable.

You wake up.

Go to work.

Pay bills.

Scroll.

Complain.

Wait for Friday.

Wait for December.

Wait for promotion.

Wait for somebody to discover you.

Wait for capital.

Wait for permission.

Wait for confidence.

Wait for the economy.

Wait for the government.

Wait for the perfect partner.

Wait for “the right time.”

And suddenly ten years have passed.

A builder asks a different question:

What am I intentionally designing and acting on?

Your life should not merely happen to you.

Participate in building it.

YOUR 90-YEAR-OLD SELF IS WATCHING

Imagine yourself at 90.

Not your current title.

Not your current bank balance.

Not today's applause.

Not today's embarrassment.

Not the opinions of people who may not even be part of your life ten years from now.

Just you.

Looking backwards.

What decisions would that person wish you had made today?

Perhaps your 90-year-old self would tell you:

Try.

Start the company.

Take the course.

Write the book.

Repair the relationship worth repairing.

Leave what needs leaving.

Protect your health.

Spend time with your children.

Learn the technology.

Make the investment.

Take the opportunity.

Follow God.

Use your gifts.

Build something that outlives you.

And stop being so terrified of temporary failure.

AFRICA NEEDS PEOPLE WHO TRY

This conversation is bigger than personal development.

Africa does not suffer from a shortage of problems.

And wherever there are problems, feedback there are opportunities for builders.

Our continent needs people willing to attempt things.

Build companies.

Build institutions.

Build technologies.

Build farms.

Build brands.

Build schools.

Build manufacturing capacity.

Build solutions.

Build communities.

Build systems that survive their founders.

We cannot build the Africa we imagine through observation, motivation alone.

Somebody has to attempt it.

Somebody has to start.

Somebody has to endure the awkward first version.

Somebody has to fail, learn, adjust and try again.

Somebody has to say:

WHY NOT ME?

THIS WEEK, DON'T JUST THINK ABOUT YOUR LIFE.

BUILD IT.

As we begin this new week, look forward.

Think long term.

But act today.

Do not ignore that persistent idea simply because you cannot yet understand where it leads.

Do not bury every inner prompting under fear, comfort or endless analysis.

Test it.

Pray about it.

Research it.

Seek wisdom.

And where there is clarity:

TRY.

Then tomorrow, try again.

One day.

One decision.

One disciplined action.

One percent.

At a time.

Because one day, God willing, you will be 90.

And perhaps the goal isn't to arrive there saying:

I never failed.

Perhaps a much better testimony would be:

I used what God gave me. I tried. I learned. I grew. I served. I built. And I did not bury my life in fear.

BUILDERS' MINDSET — 7 LESSONS

1. THINK LONG TERM.

Make today's decisions with your 90-year-old self in mind.

2. MINIMIZE REGRET, NOT FAILURE.

Failure can teach you. Never trying can haunt you.

3. BELIEF MUST PRODUCE ACTION.

Faith without works is dead. Believe and move.

4. START BEFORE EVERYTHING IS PERFECT.

Clarity often increases after movement begins.

5. COMPOUND YOUR 1%.

Small disciplined actions repeated consistently can create extraordinary outcomes.

6. CLOSE THE POTENTIAL–EXECUTION GAP.

Don't merely admire who you could become. Build that person.

7. LIVE BY DESIGN, NOT BY DEFAULT.

Choose your direction. Choose your habits. Choose your standards. Then build intentionally.

THE BUILDER'S QUESTION FOR THIS WEEK

Don't ask only:

What do I want?

Ask:

What is God asking me to do with what He has placed in my hands and what action can I take TODAY?

Then take the step.

WHAT IS MN COLLECTIVE?

MN COLLECTIVE exists to help build builders.

We believe Africa's future will not be transformed only by people looking for opportunities.

It will be transformed by people equipped to create them.

We help Africans: Next Gen.

BELIEVE— develop the mindset, courage, faith and vision to see possibility.

BRAND— understand their value, build reputation, communicate clearly and position themselves and their businesses for opportunity.

BUILD— turn ideas, skills, problems and opportunities into sustainable businesses, careers, institutions and impact.

We are building a generation that doesn't simply ask:

Where are the jobs?

Where are the opportunities, they see them and act on them?

But also:

What can we build?

A generation that doesn't wait indefinitely for permission.

A generation that sees African problems and recognizes opportunities to create African solutions.

A generation willing to start small, learn continuously, build consistently and think generationally.

Because Africa does not only need more dreamers.

AFRICA NEEDS BUILDERS.

MN COLLECTIVE | INSIGHTS UNFILTERED

BELIEVE. BRAND. BUILD AFRICA.

LESS WAITING. MORE BUILDING.

THE FUTURE BELONGS TO BUILDERS.

LIVE BY DESIGN. NOT BY DEFAULT.
