 The Still Voice: Listen. Trust. Act.

There is a voice within many of us that keeps asking for more. More purpose. More growth. More discipline. More courage. More contribution. It is the quiet conviction that tells you that your current position may not be your final destination. It reminds you to read more, learn more, prepare more, work on yourself and show up more intentionally.

But what does more really mean?

More is not necessarily about accumulating more money, titles, possessions or applause. Sometimes, more means becoming more of who you were created to be. It means stretching beyond comfort, expanding your capacity and refusing to allow your current circumstances to become the ceiling of your potential. More is the recognition that there may be a greater contribution you are capable of making not simply for yourself, but for others.

The challenge is that we live in a world full of noise. Everyone has an opinion about what you should do. Friends have advice. Family has expectations. Society has its own definition of success. Social media presents endless examples of how life is supposedly meant to look. In the process of listening to everyone else, we can lose the ability to hear the voice within.

That is why stillness matters.

Stillness is not inactivity. It is not a lack of ambition. It is the discipline of creating enough space to think clearly, reflect deeply and listen intentionally. Even Scripture reminds us: Be still, and know that I am God.

I believe in action. I believe in execution. I believe that when it is time to move, we should move. But effective movement requires clarity. Not every opportunity should be pursued. Not every crowd should be followed. Not every opinion should determine the direction of your life.

Sometimes the most strategic thing you can do is pause.

Be still long enough to ask yourself the questions that matter. What is this season teaching me? What am I being prepared for? What do I need to learn? Where do I need to grow? What problem am I uniquely positioned to solve? And perhaps the most important question of all: What is the “more” that keeps calling me?

Many of us do not trust that still voice. We assume that everyone else must know better. We look for validation from friends, family, colleagues and the crowd before trusting the conviction that continues to return to us. Yet some of the most significant decisions in life begin quietly, long before they make sense to everyone around us.

That does not mean acting impulsively or rejecting wisdom. It means developing discernment. Seek counsel. Learn. Observe. Pray. But do not become so dependent on external approval that you silence the conviction that may be directing you towards growth.

The still voice also requires courage because listening alone is not enough.

At some point, you must act. Act is Faith.

You must take the course. Start the project. Apply for the opportunity. Build the skill. Have the conversation. Leave behind what no longer serves your growth. Try again after failure.

Everything happening in your life has the potential to teach you something. Failure can teach you. Disappointment can refine you. Rejection can redirect you. Mistakes can reveal what needs to change. The question is whether you will take the lesson and grow or remain defined by the experience.

We listen. We learn. We adjust. We move.

And we keep asking: What is the more?

What is it that I am capable of becoming? How can I be useful beyond myself? What can I build? Who can I serve? What problem can I solve? How can my experiences, skills, ideas and resources become part of something bigger than my own comfort?

Because ultimately, a meaningful life cannot be built around self alone. Growth becomes more powerful when it translates into contribution. Success becomes more meaningful when it creates opportunities for others. Knowledge becomes more valuable when it solves real problems.

Build is where conviction becomes action. It is where ideas become solutions, skills become opportunities and individuals become contributors to businesses, communities and economies.

Africa's future will not be built by people waiting for perfect conditions. It will be built by people who can identify problems, develop solutions and take responsibility for creating what does not yet exist.

Perhaps that is what the still voice has been trying to tell you.

The question is whether you will become still enough to hear it, wise enough to discern it and courageous enough to act on it.
