Prayer of Jonah and Ezekiah

If God is still alive there is still a great future.

The story of Jonah and the prayer of Hezekiah carry two powerful lessons about God’s mercy, repentance, faith, and the power of prayer.

Jonah: You Cannot Run From God

Jonah was called by God to go to Nineveh and warn the people to repent. But Jonah ran in the opposite direction. A great storm came, Jonah was thrown into the sea, and he was swallowed by a great fish.

From the belly of the fish, Jonah cried out to God. God heard him and gave him another chance.

The lesson: Even when you run, disobey, fail, or find yourself in a place you never expected, God can still hear your prayer and redirect your life.

Salvation belongs to the Lord. — Jonah 2:9

Jonah's story is a story of a second chance.

Hezekiah: A Prayer That Changed the Outcome

King Hezekiah became seriously ill. The prophet Isaiah told him:

Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.” — Isaiah 38:1

But Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed. He reminded God of how he had walked faithfully before Him. Before Isaiah had even left, God sent him back with another message:

I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will add fifteen years to your life. — Isaiah 38:5

The lesson: Never underestimate the power of taking your situation directly to God. What looks final to people may still be placed before God in prayer.

The message of both stories

Jonah teaches us that when we turn back to God, He can restore our direction.

Hezekiah teaches us that when we cry out to God, He hears our prayers and sees our tears.

One was running away from God's will.

The other was facing what appeared to be the end.

Yet both encountered God.

Maybe the word for your season is this:

If you have been running, come back.

If you have received a report that has broken your heart, pray.

If life looks like it has reached a dead end, remember: God is still God in the belly of the fish, and God is still God when you turn your face to the wall.

Your current situation may be real, but it does not have to be the final word.

God can heal like.he did heziah and spit you out of the fish mouth like Jonah.
