WHO YOU ARE WHEN NOBODY IS WATCHING?

What you do in secret is who you are in reality. Character is what remains when nobody is watching.

BELIEVE • BRAND • BUILD

There is a version of you that the world sees and there is a version of you that exists when nobody is watching.

The world sees your title.

Your wealth.

Your achievements.

Your influence.

Your clothes.

Your social media.

Your network.

Your success.

But God sees the heart.

And eventually, life has a way of revealing who we really are.

Because character is not what you perform in public. Character is what you consistently do when there is no applause, no audience and nothing obvious to gain.

How do you treat people who cannot do anything for you?

How do you treat people beneath your position?

How do you speak about people who are not in the room?

How do you treat someone else's child?

How do you respond when you have power and the other person doesn't?

How do you behave when hurting someone would benefit you?

Those moments reveal character.

TREAT PEOPLE THE WAY YOU WANT TO BE TREATED

Jesus gave humanity one of the simplest principles for living:

Whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them.

Matthew 7:12

It sounds simple.

But imagine if we genuinely lived by it.

Before disrespecting someone, ask:

Would I want someone to speak to me like this?

Before humiliating someone:

Would I want someone to humiliate me or someone I love?

Before deliberately hurting someone:

Would I want someone to do this to my child?

Before taking advantage of someone's vulnerability:

Would I want someone to take advantage of me when I was vulnerable?

Empathy begins when we stop asking only, What can I gain?

and start asking:

What can I give?

WHAT HAPPENED TO EMPATHY?

Sometimes it feels like the world has become increasingly transactional.

People ask:

What can this person do for me?

What do I gain from knowing them?

How useful are they to me?

And when the benefit disappears, sometimes the relationship disappears with it.

But genuine care is different.

Genuine care says:

I can help you even when there is nothing in it for me.

I can celebrate you without competing with you.

I can open a door for you without demanding that you owe me one.

I can be kind to you even when nobody will ever know I was kind.

That is character.

And perhaps one of the greatest tests of character is whether you can do good for someone who cannot repay you.

WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO BE CRUEL TO ANOTHER HUMAN BEING?

There are people who have hurt us.

There are people who have betrayed us.

There are people who have lied.

There are people who deliberately inflict pain.

There are people whose actions have consequences.

But why should someone else's cruelty turn us into cruel people?

Why would you want to become the very thing that wounded you?

Why would you deliberately hurt someone else's child?

Why would you intentionally destroy another person's peace simply because you have the power to do so?

Your pain does not give you permission to become someone's pain.

You can acknowledge what happened to you without becoming what happened to you.

You can set boundaries without becoming bitter.

You can walk away without destroying someone.

You can forgive without reopening the door.

You can seek justice without becoming vengeful.

And sometimes the most powerful response is simply:

I will not become like you.

GOD CARES ABOUT HOW WE TREAT PEOPLE

The Bible is remarkably clear about how we are called to treat one another.

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

 Ephesians 4:32

We are instructed to love our neighbours.

To forgive.

To show mercy.

To speak truth.

To avoid hatred.

To care for others.

To help those in need.

To treat others with dignity.

Romans 12:18 reminds us:

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

And Colossians 3:12 calls believers to clothe themselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

These are not weaknesses.

Kindness is strength under control.

Forgiveness is not weakness.

Forgiveness is refusing to allow another person's actions to permanently control your heart.

And humility is not thinking less of yourself.

It is understanding that you are not greater than another human being.

YOU ARE NOT BETTER THAN ANYONE

You may have money.

Someone else may have wisdom.

You may have a title.

Someone else may have influence you cannot see.

You may have a platform.

Someone else may carry a grace that only God understands.

You may have resources.

Someone else may have faith that has carried them through storms you know nothing about.

We all breathe.

We all bleed.

We all experience joy.

We all experience heartbreak.

We all have weaknesses.

And eventually, every one of us leaves this earth.

The difference between us is often what God has entrusted to each person and what we choose to do with it.

So don't confuse advantage with superiority.

Being blessed does not make you better than another person.

It gives you greater responsibility to use what you have well.

GOD SEES WHAT PEOPLE DON'T

There are things people will never see.

The conversations nobody heard.

The tears nobody witnessed.

The sacrifices nobody acknowledged.

The kindness nobody applauded.

The injustice nobody believed.

The moments you chose restraint when you could have retaliated.

But God sees.

And Scripture reminds us that God is not unjust and does not forget the work and love shown in His name (Hebrews 6:10).

There are situations where you may never receive an apology.

You may never receive an explanation.

You may never see justice happen in the way you expected.

And that can be incredibly painful.

But you don't have to become consumed by Why me?

Sometimes you have to surrender what you cannot control and say:

God, You saw it. You know the truth. I leave this with You.

God's vindication does not always come in the form we expect.

But we can trust Him with what we cannot fix.

AND WHAT ABOUT GOOD PEOPLE WHO EXPERIENCE CRUELTY?**

This is one of life's hardest questions.

Why do genuine people sometimes suffer?

Why do kind people get betrayed?

Why do honest people sometimes experience injustice?

Why do people who would never intentionally hurt another person sometimes become victims of someone else's cruelty?

The Bible does not promise us a life without suffering.

Jesus Himself said:

In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

 John 16:33

The promise isn't that storms will never come.

The promise is that storms don't get the final word.

Some seasons break us.

Some seasons humble us.

Some seasons expose people.

Some seasons teach us.

Some seasons force us to discover strength we didn't know existed.

And sometimes the pain you never would have chosen becomes part of the testimony you one day use to encourage someone else.

THE STORM DOES NOT LAST FOREVER

Life moves in seasons.

There are seasons of celebration.

Seasons of waiting.

Seasons of loss.

Seasons of rebuilding.

Seasons of becoming.

And seasons of restoration.

A storm can feel permanent while you're standing in the middle of it.

But storms move.

Pain changes.

People change.

Circumstances change.

And you change.

Perhaps one of the greatest lessons is learning to walk through difficult seasons without losing your character.

Don't allow betrayal to make you dishonest.

Don't allow rejection to make you hateful.

Don't allow disappointment to make you cruel.

Don't allow someone else's behaviour to determine who you become.

Overcome your storm with grace.

Because one day, someone else may need the testimony of how you survived yours.

DAVID HAD A SLING

Never underestimate someone because of what they appear to have.

David did not have Goliath's size.

He did not have Goliath's armour.

He did not have Goliath's reputation.

But David had something Goliath did not understand:

Faith in God.

Sometimes people look at your circumstances and think they know your capacity.

They don't know your prayer life.

They don't know what God has placed inside you.

They don't know the grace that has carried you.

They don't know what God is preparing you for.

So be careful how you treat people.

You may be looking at someone you consider insignificant while God sees something entirely different.

Never mess with someone's destiny because you underestimated them.

Leave room for God.

FORGIVENESS DOES NOT MEAN APPROVING EVIL

Forgiveness is one of the hardest things we are asked to do.

But forgiveness does not mean saying:

What you did was acceptable.

It means refusing to let hatred own the rest of your life.

You can forgive and still have boundaries.

You can forgive and still walk away.

You can forgive and still acknowledge that what happened was wrong.

You can forgive without returning to the same environment.

And sometimes forgiveness is less about releasing the person who hurt you and more about freeing yourself from carrying the weight of what they did.

Jesus taught us to forgive because He understands how destructive bitterness can become.

KARMA, CONSEQUENCES AND GOD'S JUSTICE.

People often say:

Karma is real.

There is a biblical principle that carries a similar warning:

A man reaps what he sows.

Galatians 6:7

What we plant matters.

Words matter.

Actions matter.

Intentions matter.

How we treat people matters.

But as Christians, we should be careful not to turn this into a desire for revenge.

Our response should not be:

I hope they suffer.

It should be:

God, handle what I cannot.

Because vengeance belongs to God (Romans 12:19).

Let God deal with what is beyond your control.

Your responsibility is to keep your heart right.

DON'T BE TWO-FACED

Don't lie to people.

Don't pretend to love someone while secretly plotting against them.

Don't smile in someone's face and destroy them behind their back.

Don't deliberately inflict pain because you know someone's weakness.

Don't exploit someone's trust.

Don't use people simply because they are useful.

Don't treat people like trash because you believe they have no power.

Character means being the same person when the room is empty.

Integrity is who you are when nobody can reward you or punish you.

BE A REASON SOMEONE SMILES TODAY

Perhaps we have made life unnecessarily complicated.

Maybe sometimes the assignment is simply:

Be kinder.

Smile at someone.

Encourage someone.

Open a door.

Give someone an opportunity.

Share knowledge.

Make an introduction.

Listen.

Forgive.

Check on someone.

Pay someone fairly.

Speak well of someone who isn't present.

Give someone hope.

Create a platform for someone who doesn't have one.

And if you have influence, use it to create opportunities for others.

Because perhaps the greatest measure of what you have built is not how many people are beneath you.

It is how many people became stronger because you were there.

LIFE IS ON A CLOCK

Every human being is living on borrowed time.

None of us knows the exact hour of our departure.

That mystery belongs to God.

We spend so much time fighting, competing, proving ourselves, accumulating things, chasing status and trying to get ahead of one another.

But one day, none of the titles will matter.

None of the money will matter.

None of the followers will matter.

None of the arguments will matter.

What will remain?

The life you lived.

The people you touched.

The good you did.

The harm you caused.

The character you demonstrated.

And ultimately, our accountability before God.

So while you are here:

Do good.

Be good to people.

Love people.

Forgive.

Show mercy.

Practice empathy.

Tell the truth.

Don't deliberately harm others.

Don't think you are better than anyone.

Use your blessings to bless others.

AND TO THE PERSON GOING THROUGH A PAINFUL SEASON

I know what it feels like to ask:

God, why me?

Why did this happen?

Why did I have to experience this?

Why do people who didn't deserve it experience so much pain?

Sometimes there are no immediate answers.

But over the years, I have learned something:

You don't always have to understand the season while you are in it.

Sometimes you simply have to survive it with grace.

Take the lesson.

Protect your heart.

Don't lose your faith.

Don't become bitter.

Don't allow what happened to you to determine who you become.

And when the season eventually changes, perhaps you will look back and understand that what you thought was the end was actually part of your preparation.

Birth itself teaches us something about pain.

There is pain before the arrival of new life.

There is pressure before delivery.

And then comes the joy.

Sometimes life works the same way.

Pain does not always mean the story is over.

Sometimes it is the painful chapter before something beautiful emerges.

GOD CAN BRING GOOD FROM WHAT HURT YOU

Romans 8:28 reminds us:

All things work together for good to those who love God.

It does not say all things are good.

Some things are painful.

Some things are unfair.

Some things should never have happened.

But God can work even through painful circumstances and bring purpose, growth, wisdom, compassion and testimony from them.

That is the difference between pain and purpose.

You may not have chosen the pain.

But you can choose what you become through it.

And perhaps one day your testimony will become someone else's encouragement.

Your survival may become someone's hope.

Your scars may become someone's evidence that healing is possible.

Your experience may help someone else avoid the same mistake.

That is how God can turn pain into purpose.

SO, WHO ARE YOU WHEN NOBODY IS WATCHING?

Not who you pretend to be.

Not who your title says you are.

Not who your bank account says you are.

Not who social media says you are.

Not who people think you are.

Who are you when nobody is watching?

Do you choose kindness?

Do you tell the truth?

Do you keep your word?

Do you respect people?

Do you forgive?

Do you help without expecting something in return?

Do you protect people's dignity?

Do you treat the cleaner with the same respect as the CEO?

Do you treat the stranger's child with the same compassion you would want for your own?

Do you use your influence to lift people?

Do you remember that every human being carries dignity because they were created by God?

Because at the end of the day, we are all temporary residents of this earth.

We don't know when our clock stops.

So while it is still running:

Be a little kinder.

Give a little more.

Forgive a little quicker.

Judge a little less.

Help someone rise.

Create opportunities for others.

Put a smile on someone's face.

Do good when nobody is watching.

And when people deliberately hurt you, don't become what hurt you.

Leave vengeance to God.

Keep your character.

Keep your faith.

Keep your heart.

Keep becoming.

Because what you do in secret is who you are in reality.

And when the story of your life is finally told, may the testimony be bigger than the pain.

May the lessons be greater than the losses.

May the people you helped remember your kindness.

And above everything else:

May God receive the glory.
