Why We All Need God at the Centre

Storms, Purpose and Building Africa with Faith

Singapore was not built by spectators. It was built by people who believed, worked, sacrificed, and took responsibility for their nation's future. If Africa is to rise, it will not happen by chance. It will be built by us.

As I listened to Khalif Kairo speak at the Destiny Business Network 2026 conference for what he shared was his first time addressing such a large audience I was reminded that some of life's greatest lessons are not learned in moments of comfort but in seasons of testing.

His message was not merely about business. It was about faith, purpose, resilience, and the God who remains constant through every storm.

One truth stood above everything else:

We are not immune to failure.

The real question is not if storms will come.

The question is:

When the storm comes, who will be your reference point?

Success Begins with a Strong Foundation

Today's world celebrates wealth, influence, titles, followers, and powerful networks.

These things have value.

But they make terrible foundations.

As believers, our foundation must always be God.

Jesus reminds us:

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."

Matthew 6:33

This is more than a promise.

It is God's blueprint for leadership.

When God becomes your priority, everything else begins to find its rightful place.

Why Does God Allow Storms?

Many of us have asked God:

Why me?

Perhaps a better question is:

Why not me?

Knowing God does not exempt us from suffering.

In fact, Scripture promises that believers will face trials.

Storms are often God's classroom.

Before He elevates us, He refines us.

Sometimes He removes the very things we have unknowingly placed above Him.

It may be money.

A title.

A relationship.

Status.

Even people we have depended on more than God.

God is a jealous God.

When we begin trusting human strength more than Him, He sometimes steps back and allows us to discover how limited our alternatives truly are.

Refinement is painful.

But refinement produces purpose.

Trust the Instruments

One illustration as cited during the conference by Kairo.

Pilots are trained that when flying through violent storms they must trust their instruments not what they see outside.

Clouds can deceive.

Rain can distort vision.

Fear can overwhelm judgment.

If a pilot ignores the instruments and relies only on what is outside, disaster can follow.

Our lives are no different.

The pilot is you.

The instruments is God and God's Word.

When life becomes turbulent, don't focus on the storm.

Focus on God.

Proverbs reminds us:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5–6

Don't be distracted by temporary clouds.

Storms never last forever.

David's Sling

David has always been my favourite character in the Bible.

The world looked at Goliath's size.

David looked at God's greatness.

The world measured armour.

David carried a sling.

The world trusted experience.

David trusted God.

Many of us feel under-equipped.

We face financial pressure.

Career uncertainty.

Business struggles.

Public criticism.

Private battles.

Yet like David, all we need is complete confidence in God.

Bring your sling.

God will handle the giant.

 Khalif Kairo's Story

One part of Khalif's testimony deeply resonated with me.

During some of his lowest moments, many people approached him with easier paths shortcuts that could have compromised his convictions.

He refused.

As believers, we understand that some battles are spiritual before they become visible.

Integrity is often tested long before success arrives.

Compromise may offer temporary relief.

But it can cost your destiny.

God is not only interested in making us successful.

He is interested in making us trustworthy.

 Ziklag Is Not Your Destination

David experienced Ziklag.

Job experienced loss.

Joseph experienced prison.

None of these seasons were permanent.

After suffering came restoration.

After testing came promotion.

After endurance came peace.

David eventually died on the throne after reigning for forty years.

Job received double for all he had lost.

The lesson is simple:

Storms expire.

God's promises do not.

God Restores Lost Years

Pastor T reminded us of one of Scripture's greatest promises:

I will restore to you the years that the locust has eaten.

Joel 2:25

The enemy often attacks our time.

Our confidence.

Our opportunities.

Our dreams.

But God specialises in restoration.

Nothing surrendered to God is ever wasted.

Vision Always Comes With Provision

Another powerful reminder came from Genesis.

When God creates life, He prepares provision.

A mother's body begins producing milk before the child arrives.

Provision follows purpose.

Vision and provision walk together.

God never gives an assignment without making provision available for it.

As Pastor T reminded us, when God answers a prayer, He often uses person.

A destiny helper.

A mentor.

An investor.

A burden bearer.

Someone assigned to unlock the next chapter of your journey.

May God connect each of us with people who are part of our assignment.

One statement close to my heart. 

It is Africa's time.

Kenya is growing.

Our population is expanding.

Our young people are full of ideas and energy.

Our entrepreneurs are solving real problems.

The world is changing.

Africa must stop waiting to be discovered.

We must build.

Singapore did not become Singapore because someone else built it.

Its people built institutions.

Built industries.

Built systems.

Built excellence.

Africa will also be built by Africans.

By entrepreneurs.

By teachers.

By engineers.

By creators.

By innovators.

By believers.

By people willing to solve problems instead of merely talking about them.

Singapore will be built by us. Africa will be built by us. Kenya will be built by us.

Every generation receives an assignment.

Ours is to build.

Your Time Cannot Be Stopped

Ecclesiastes reminds us:

The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong... but time and chance happen to them all.

Ecclesiastes 9:11

Do not compete with everyone.

Prepare.

Grow.

Remain faithful.

When your appointed season arrives, no one can stop it.

People will revisit your story.

They will remember your struggles.

They will see what God has done.

Your past will become part of your testimony.

Medals and Scars

Pastor T ended with words I will never forget.

If you show people your medals, you will intimidate them. If you show them your scars, you will inspire them. But if you show them the journey between your scars and your medals, you will transform them.

That is exactly what we hope to build through MN Collective School of Builders.

Not a platform that celebrates success alone.

A community that teaches resilience.

Character.

Faith.

Leadership.

Purpose.

Building.

Believe. Brand. Build. With God.

At MN Collective we believe in three pillars:

Today I would add one more truth.

Believe with Faith.

Brand with Integrity.

Build with God.

God is the Author and Finisher of our story.

He remains faithful in success.

He remains faithful in suffering.

He remains faithful when no one else understands the journey.

May He become your reference point.

May He send the destiny helpers assigned to your life.

May He restore the years that seem lost.

May your vision find provision.

May your storm give birth to purpose.

May your scars become someone else's hope.

May your story glorify God.

Africa will rise.

Kenya will rise.

You will rise.

I will rise.

Because when God is at the centre, every storm has an expiry date, every assignment has provision, and every faithful step moves us closer to His purpose.

May God establish the work of our hands, raise a generation of builders, and use Africa to bless the nations.
