The Problem With Men in This Generation

The Problem With Men in This Generation~ Especially Millennials

Responsibility, Fatherhood, Love, Leadership, and the Crisis of Presence

Recently, during an interview by Kenyan media personality and teacher Mwalimu Racheal, one statement stood out deeply: “Be a man of your word. Keep your word. Say what you mean and do what you say.” That simple statement speaks to one of the biggest problems facing many modern relationships, homes, and families today the crisis of responsibility among many men, especially within the Millennial generation.

Many women today are not complaining because men lack money alone. They are crying because many men lack consistency, leadership, accountability, discipline, emotional presence, and responsibility. Some fathers are absent from their children’s lives. Some men are physically present but emotionally unavailable. Some avoid commitment, avoid fatherhood, avoid communication, and avoid sacrifice. We are seeing more broken homes, more fatherless children, more lonely women, and more emotionally disconnected families than before.

Yet many Millennials were raised by present fathers and hardworking mothers. Many saw men who sacrificed for their families, paid school fees, protected their homes, and stood by their wives and children. So what happened?

The Current Challenges Affecting Many Men Today

Many men between the ages of 30 and 50 are facing a serious identity and responsibility crisis. Some of the major problems include:

Fear of commitment and marriage

Lack of discipline and consistency

Emotional immaturity

Financial irresponsibility

Escapism through alcohol, boys. women, or social media

Fatherlessness and lack of mentorship

Poor communication skills

Pride and refusal to seek help

Prioritizing pleasure over purpose

Work obsession while neglecting family

Inability to lead emotionally and spiritually

Mental health struggles that remain unaddressed

Lack of accountability and integrity

Some men promise but never follow through. A simple example, if you tell someone you will call at 6 PM, call at 6 PM. If you cannot, send a text and communicate. Responsibility is not only about money. Responsibility is reliability. It is consistency. It is emotional presence. It is consideration. Your word must mean something.

A man who keeps his word builds trust. A man who constantly disappoints destroys emotional safety in his relationships.

What Went Wrong?

Part of the problem is that society changed faster than many men emotionally adapted. Previous generations raised boys to provide financially, but many were never taught emotional intelligence, communication, partnership, or healing. Some boys grew into men carrying unhealed trauma, pressure, anger, confusion, and unrealistic expectations about masculinity.

Modern culture has also glorified selfishness, casual relationships, instant gratification, and emotional detachment. Some men grew up seeing responsibility as pressure instead of purpose. Others fear failing as husbands and fathers, so they avoid commitment completely.

At the same time, many women today are more educated, financially independent, and emotionally aware. Relationships are no longer built only on survival. Women now desire emotional connection, leadership, peace, consistency, communication, and partnership. Some men have not adjusted to this reality.

But despite the crisis, there are still responsible men who deserve recognition men who show up for their children and families consistently. Kenyan media personality Ted Josiah has openly embraced fatherhood and responsibility. Men like Alusa and many others locally and internationally continue to demonstrate that fatherhood is not a burden it is an honor.

What Men Need to Understand About Being Fathers and Husbands

A father is not only a provider. A father is a protector, leader, teacher, priest, comforter, and example. Children remember presence more than presents. Your child may forget expensive gifts, but they will never forget whether you were there.

A husband must understand that leadership is not domination. Real masculine power is responsibility. A powerful man is disciplined, dependable, emotionally mature, protective, and consistent. Strength is not in controlling women. Strength is in controlling yourself.

Men must:

Keep their promises

Communicate clearly

Make time for family

Be emotionally available

Be faithful and disciplined

Invest in relationships the same way they invest in business

Protect the emotional atmosphere of the home

Lead with love, wisdom, and humility

A man who wants a peaceful home must create emotional safety. Women often respond to how they are treated. A woman flourishes where she feels loved, secure, valued, protected, and respected.

What Women Need to Understand About Men and Husbands

Women also have responsibilities in building healthy homes and relationships. Respect, peace, encouragement, loyalty, wisdom, and emotional support matter deeply to many men. A good man wants to feel appreciated, trusted, admired, and emotionally safe too.

Women must ask themselves:

Am I bringing peace or constant chaos?

Am I respectful in communication?

Am I emotionally mature?

Am I supportive of his purpose and growth?

Am I also showing up consistently?

A relationship cannot survive when only one person sacrifices. Healthy love requires mutual effort.

Many women desire strong, responsible, disciplined men and rightly so. But they must also be prepared emotionally, mentally, and spiritually for that kind of partnership. A great relationship is built by two people choosing maturity daily.

A woman should strive to be her man’s peace, pride, and joy. Make him proud. Encourage him. Respect him publicly and privately. Build with him instead of competing with him.

What the Bible Says About Men, Husbands, and Women

The Bible speaks strongly about responsibility, love, leadership, and respect within relationships and families.

About Men and Husbands

Ephesians 5:25: Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.

Ephesians 5:25: Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.

The Bible teaches that a husband must love sacrificially, not selfishly. Love is shown through actions, consistency, patience, provision, protection, and service.

1 Timothy 5:8 :Anyone who does not provide for their relatives has denied the faith.

1 Timothy 5:8 :Anyone who does not provide for their relatives has denied the faith.

Provision is not only financial. It includes emotional and spiritual provision too.

About Women and Wives

Proverbs 14:1: The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.

Proverbs 14:1: The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.

Women are called to wisdom, peace, and building their homes with love and understanding.

About Mutual Respect

Ephesians 5:33  Let the husband love his wife, and let the wife respect her husband.

Ephesians 5:33 Let the husband love his wife, and let the wife respect her husband.

Love and respect must work together. One cannot survive long without the other.

The Solution

The solution begins with accountability and healing. Men must return to integrity, discipline, and responsibility. Women must also embrace wisdom, peace, and emotional maturity. Both must learn communication, patience, forgiveness, and partnership.

We need:

Fathers mentoring younger men

More emotionally healthy homes

Honest conversations about masculinity

Men who keep their word

Women who value peace and partnership

Spiritual grounding and moral discipline

Couples who intentionally build healthy families

A successful relationship is not built only on romance. It is built on consistency, trust, sacrifice, communication, discipline, prayer, and daily effort.

Power is not what makes a man attractive. Responsibility is.

A man who shows up consistently, keeps his word, loves his children, honors his wife, communicates honestly, and protects his family is one of the most valuable men in society today.

And for both men and women: if you want love, loyalty, peace, and commitment  become the kind of person capable of sustaining those things.

Why have men and women lost confidence in relationships? Marriages?

You hear men say women? All women are the same? Women are difficult?

You hear women curse out men ? Call them out for the irresponsibility?  Etc
