MIND CONDITIONING
Mind conditioning on money is something I keep teaching my kids. One Kenya shilling is the same as one million. The value of one bob and the power of compounding starts there.
There are times I find coins just lying around the house one bob here, five bob there and I teach my kids the value of that one Kenya shilling. One million starts with one. They need to learn to value that one shilling because that one shilling collected consistently every day over the next 70 years of their lives becomes something powerful.
If they collect and save just 1 Kenya shilling every single day for 60 years:
1×365×60 = 21,900
That becomes:
KES 21,900
from only saving 1 bob a day consistently.
But the real lesson is the power of discipline and compounding.
If that same KES 1 per day was invested and compounded over 60 years at around 10% annual growth, it could grow to roughly:
1.4M
Not because 1 bob is big…
but because consistency over time is powerful. Never waste small beginnings. The world tests you with how you manage the small. How responsible you are with the little is the same discipline you will carry when big money comes. So value that one bob the same way you would value one million. That same discipline and mindset is what can eventually buy you a car, build a business, own land, or create generational wealth.
The power of compounding is not only about money, it is about habits, discipline, consistency, and mindset over the years. Small things done daily become great things over time. That is one of the biggest lessons from the book The Compound Effect small smart choices repeated consistently over time create massive results. Success, wealth, discipline, health, and even character are all compounded daily. Tiny actions may look insignificant today, but over years they shape entire lives.
And I also keep teaching them the small things that I am still working on to date, including the money mindset and the power of compounding. One thing I keep learning is this: how you show up in one thing is how you show up in everything. Consistency is hard. Discipline is an art. If you master these two, success becomes inevitable 💯👌
It is still a struggle, but we are on a journey, and that is the greatest secret and difference between the successful and the mediocre mastering discipline and consistency. Life is in how you show up across all areas of your life. If you are not disciplined with money, how will you be disciplined at work or in anything else? If you are not disciplined with the time you wake up, how will you master bigger responsibilities?
One thing I have learnt reading, watching from wealthy and successful people lives is that they have routines and patterns. They wake up at the same time every day, Sunday to Sunday. Their days are programmed and intentional from the moment they wake up. E.g 4:30am quiet time for 15 minutes, prayer, reading the Bible, reading a book, gym or yoga, planning their day over and over again evenings spend time with family iver dinner and catch up, pray as a family, read a book, sleep. Repeat mode. They have maintained and mastered the same discipline and consistency for years. I have observed that with my dad over the years he sleeps and wakes up at the same time every day whether its a holiday work day. Also my current boss he does some weekly walkabouts or rounds at the same time everyday. From my current employer he has the same routines daily. Some are similar to the ones listed above. I always say people make time for what they priotize. Let no one lie to you they have no time for you.
And in the end, you realise the power of compounding is not just in money. It is in habits, discipline, routines, mindset, health, work ethic, relationships, and personal growth.
One of my mentors from corporate success stories, Sylvia Mulinge, keeps repeating this message, and it has stayed with me deeply. Learn from people even without meeting them. With the internet now, you can follow people, learn from them, study their journeys, patterns, discipline, failures, and success. There is wisdom everywhere if you are willing to observe and apply it.
I always tell my children: condition your mind to see value even in the smallest coin. One bob and one million are the same in principle. One is simply compounded longer than the other. Condition your mind to see value in the smallest things, how you show up for anything.
The Bible says in the Book of Proverbs, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” That scripture reminds me that teaching children discipline, responsibility, value, stewardship, and mindset while they are young will stay with them for life.
Condition your mind to respect money in its smallest form. Condition your mind to see more even in the small. One bob and one million are the same.
