Don't Pursue Worldly Desires

"Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever."  1 John 2:15-17

As I listened to the sermon today from 1 John 2:15-17, I was reminded of a powerful truth we are not called to pursue worldly desires, but to pursue God's will and purpose for our lives.

Every Sunday when I walk into church, I carry a simple prayer in my heart "Lord, may I not walk out the same way I walked in. May Your Word, Your presence, and the anointing of the sermon transform me and carry me through every area of my life all the days of my life."

For me, church is not merely a routine, a discipline, or a weekly obligation. It is a sacred space where I expect to encounter God. I do not go expecting the ordinary; I go expecting God. Each sermon is an opportunity for Him to speak, correct, guide, and draw me closer to His perfect will.

Today, our Senior Pastor highlighted three powerful areas that deeply affect people's lives when pursued without understanding their God-given purpose:

Money without purpose becomes greed.

Sex without purpose becomes lust and promiscuity.

Power without purpose becomes pride.

None of these things are inherently bad. Money, sex, and power can all be used for good when aligned with God's design. The danger comes when they become our pursuit rather than God's purpose becoming our pursuit.

As we prepare to close the chapter of May 2026, we were challenged to make a commitment: not to focus on worldly desires, but to focus on God's higher calling for our lives.

This is the last May 2026 we will ever see. It will never come again.

As we step into June, let us not simply expect the normal from God. Let us seek Him earnestly. Let us seek His desires for us, His plans for us, and His perfect will for our lives.

Do not settle for repeating the same patterns year after year. Dare to see God through a fresh lens. Dare to encounter the God of the Bible the God who turned water into wine, parted the Red Sea, healed the sick, raised the dead, and made a way where there seemed to be no way.

We are in this world for a short time, and every day is a gift. Time is too precious to spend living beneath our calling, accepting mediocrity, or settling for average in our spiritual lives, our health, our relationships, our finances, or our purpose.

Every morning we wake up is another opportunity to seek God, know God, obey God, and fulfill the purpose for which He created us.

As May comes to an end, I choose gratitude. I thank God for every lesson, every blessing, every challenge, every closed door, every open door, every victory, and every moment of growth. May was not perfect, but God was faithful through it all.

And as June begins, may we pursue not the desires of the world, but the desires of God. For when we seek His will above our own, we discover the life we were truly created to live.

Prayer for June 2026

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for carrying us through the month of May 2026. Thank You for Your faithfulness, protection, provision, mercy, and grace. Thank You for the lessons You taught us, the prayers You answered, and even the seasons that stretched and strengthened our faith.

As we enter June, we surrender our plans, desires, ambitions, and expectations before You. Help us not to be consumed by the things of this world but to seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness.

Lord, align our hearts with Your purpose. Let our pursuit be Your will above our own. Give us wisdom where we need direction, courage where we need faith, and strength where we feel weak.

May June be a month of spiritual growth, renewed vision, divine opportunities, good health, peace of mind, financial stewardship, meaningful relationships, and a deeper walk with You.

Open our eyes to see You, our ears to hear You, and our hearts to obey You. May we encounter You in fresh and powerful ways and may our lives bring glory to Your name.
